Crafted from diverse scrap materials, including old iron tank sheets, fan grilles, bicycle pedals and rims, bike clutch plates and petrol tanks, thick pipes, and a large tractor wheel, this sculpture captures the essence of nature's resilience amidst industrial remnants. Each piece is meticulously assembled to form the intricate details of the butterfly and the flower, showcasing my unparalleled skill in transforming discarded objects into art.
The core message of Toxic Beauty revolves around nature conservation and the profound impact of pesticides on our environment. By repurposing scrap metal, I not only highlight the importance of recycling but also draw attention to the pressing need for environmental protection. The juxtaposition of industrial waste and natural beauty in the sculpture serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle between human progress and ecological preservation.
Toxic Beauty is more than just a visual spectacle; it is an evocative call to action, urging viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature and take steps towards a more sustainable future. This extraordinary work of art, which holds the record for the largest scrap metal butterfly in the India Book of Records, is proudly displayed at the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, alongside a rail track, further emphasizing the intersection of human activity and natural wonder.
Toxic Beauty is a captivating sculpture of mine, symbolizing the delicate balance between nature and human intervention. This 23-foot masterpiece, inspired by the endangered Swallowtail butterfly, one of the rarest butterflies in the world, is depicted attracted to a grand five-petaled flower, enhancing its beauty with the flower's natural colors.
However, the flower warns the butterfly that pesticides have been sprayed on it by humans, and if the butterfly lands on it, its existence could be endangered. Through this sculpture, the threat posed to butterflies and other rare species by the use of pesticides by mankind is depicted.
At the Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, Nawabganj, Uttar Pradesh, a unique selfie point has been established featuring the world’s largest eagle, the Haste Eagle. This majestic bird, which existed in New Zealand up to 800 years ago, holds the title of the largest eagle ever recorded.
The 7 feet tall sculpture is crafted from recycled metal. The Haste Eagle was renowned for its formidable hunting technique; it would insert its entire head into its prey, tear apart its limbs, and consume the meat piece by piece. While its flight and hunting methods were similar to modern eagles, its feeding approach resembled that of vultures.
The main purpose of this installation is to remind us of the Haste Eagle’s extinction and highlight the threat of global warming, which contributed significantly to its disappearance. This striking artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of environmental changes on wildlife. If we do not remain vigilant, other species may face extinction in the future.
In addition to the Haste Eagle, the park also features other bird sculptures, including a peacock, an ostrich in a creative form, and a pair of sarash cranes. These sculptures have become a major attraction at the Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, drawing visitors and raising awareness about bird conservation. This selfie point not only captivates guests but also encourages them to actively participate in the protection of avian species.
The metal sculpture of an ostrich, installed at Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, Unnao, is not just an artistic marvel but also an outstanding example of recycling and innovation. This incredible creation has been crafted using an old Boxer Yamaha motorcycle fuel tank, metal rods, and other scrap metal. The most unique feature of this sculpture is the spring-like pipe used in its neck, which allows it to sway gently with the wind, making it appear lively and animated.
This movement particularly fascinates children and visitors. When the wind blows, it gives the illusion that the ostrich is moving its head, creating a captivating and interactive experience. This technique transforms it into a dynamic art sculpture, not just entertaining the audience but also showcasing new possibilities in metal art.
The scrap metal peacock, an extraordinary creation, stands as a testament to artistic innovation and sustainable craftsmanship. Crafted entirely from recycled scrap metal, this sculpture beautifully captures the essence of India’s national bird in a truly unique form.
One of its most striking features is its head, which is designed in the shape of a steel ball. This spherical head not only gives the peacock a futuristic and abstract appearance but also adds an element of intrigue to its design. The rest of the sculpture is meticulously assembled using metal rods, plates, and other discarded metallic elements, giving it a bold and dynamic presence.
This artwork is more than just a visual delight—it represents the beauty of repurposing waste materials into meaningful art. The intricate metalwork and attention to detail highlight the fusion of traditional aesthetics with modern industrial elements.
At the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow, a magnificent lion sculpture has been created in honor of the zoo’s beloved lion, Prithvi. This extraordinary artwork, crafted entirely from scrap metal, stands as a powerful testament to innovation, sustainability, and wildlife conservation. What makes this sculpture truly remarkable is that it has been built using discarded materials such as old tractors, jeeps, bullet bikes, e-rickshaws, and rope wires previously used in the zoo, making it a perfect example of recycling and upcycling in modern art.
A key highlight of this sculpture is its intricately designed mane, crafted from old rope wires, giving it a strikingly lifelike appearance. The sculpture was built following a zero-waste philosophy, ensuring that not a single piece of new metal was used in its construction. Additionally, it was created without the use of traditional clay modeling or Plaster of Paris (P.O.P.), setting it apart from conventional sculpting techniques. Inspired by the Indian Government’s ‘Waste to Wonder’ initiative, this lion sculpture showcases the potential of transforming waste materials into monumental works of art, while also promoting environmental awareness and sustainable creativity.
One of its most impressive features is its durability, as it is designed to last for over 500 years. Made from weather-resistant materials, the sculpture is built to withstand harsh climatic conditions, including rain, heat, and humidity, ensuring its longevity. Adding to its uniqueness, the internal structure of the lion’s abdomen includes metals that cannot be welded, further enhancing its artistic complexity and depth.
Beyond being an artistic marvel, this sculpture serves as a symbolic tribute to Prithvi, preserving his legacy and presence within the zoo. It allows visitors to remember and celebrate his life, making it a meaningful and emotional addition to the zoological garden. More than just a sculpture, it represents the harmonious blend of wildlife, art, and sustainability, inspiring future generations to embrace the importance of conservation, recycling, and artistic ingenuity.
This landmark creation not only enhances the zoo’s artistic and historical significance but also stands as a shining example of how waste can be turned into wonder. With its grandeur, craftsmanship, and deep symbolic meaning, the scrap metal lion remains an enduring testament to innovation, creativity, and the eternal spirit of the king of the jungle.
This proposal presents a unique and spiritually significant artistic creation, the ‘Kumbh Kalash’, an extraordinary metal sculpture to be established at Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. This grand Kalash will be made from 5,000 metallic coins, each engraved with the sacred ‘ॐ’ symbol, representing faith, culture, and divine energy. Designed as a rotating structure, the Kalash will complete seven rotations per minute, symbolizing the seven sacred places and Sapta Rishis (Seven Great Sages) from Hindu tradition. Its installation aims to create an eternal religious and cultural landmark that enhances the spiritual essence of the Kumbh Mela, bringing devotees closer to their faith and heritage.
The Kumbh Kalash will be an imposing and visually striking structure with a height of 12 feet and a width of 7 feet. This grand and intricately designed structure will reflect its magnificence in daylight and will be adorned with illuminated engravings at night, making it a radiant divine centerpiece of the Kumbh Mela. The massive and artistic Kalash will be positioned prominently, capturing the attention of devotees, saints, and visitors alike.
One of the most distinctive features of the Kumbh Kalash is its ability to rotate seven times per minute, signifying:
This continuous symbolic rotation of the Kalash enhances its religious significance, making it a living, moving embodiment of Hindu mythology and culture.
The primary installation of this grand Kumbh Kalash will be at Prayagraj’s Kumbh Mela site, a sacred confluence of millions of devotees seeking spiritual awakening. Additionally, the vision extends towards installing similar Kalash sculptures across all districts of Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that the essence of the Kumbh Mela is accessible to people across the state. This initiative will allow devotees to experience the Kumbh spirit and inspire participation in one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
